The Berkshire Art Association is calling for entries for the 2013 juried BAA College Fellowship Show.

Up to $5,000 in prizes will be awarded to Berkshire college art students whose work is selected for the annual exhibition.  The BAA Fellowship Show will run from April 5 – 27 at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, 28 Renne Avenue in Pittsfield with an Awards Reception on April 13, Saturday, from 5 – 7 pm.

BAA President Mary Rentz noted that the BAA is awarding $5,000 again this year.  “Our Board feels that with the still recovering economy, it is particularly important to encourage students who are pursuing visual arts.  We need to validate the importance of their creative vision in our society.”

The Fellowship is open to Berkshire County students enrolled in art at any college in the country, as well as to non-residents currently studying art at a Berkshire County college – Berkshire Community College, MCLA, Williams, and Simon’s Rock.

Submission deadline is March 1, 2013.  Entry is by a CD portfolio of recent, related artwork.  Galleries of recent BAA Fellowship recipients and this year’s application form in available on the “Berkshire Art” Facebook page and BAA’s website – berkshireartassociation.org.

The BAA Fellowship will be funded, in part, by proceeds from the 10×10 RAP (Real Art Party), at the Berkshire Museum – part of the City of Pittsfield’s 10×10 Festival which has been underwritten by Berkshire Gas Company.  Berkshire Bank Foundation is underwriting the 10×10 RAP.

Presented in collaboration with Storefront Artist Project and the Berkshire Museum, the 10×10 RAP is an exhibit and sale of 10×10 inch art at the Berkshire Museum.  Regional artists are donating original pieces for the benefit of Berkshire art students.

Opening February 14, the 10×10 RAP will culminate in a free art party /sale on February 20 at the Berkshire Museum.  A $25 ARTix will guarantee a 10×10 artwork.  Doors open at 5:30 pm for preview, and drawing of the ticket numbers will begin at 7 pm.  As a ticket number is called, the holder selects an artwork to take home.

ARTix will be for sale beginning on February 14 at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, 28 Renne Avenue.  ARTix will be be sold at the Berkshire Museum on Tuesday, February 19 at Pecha Kucha night, 7 pm, and on at the 10×10 RAP on the 20th.

10×10 RAP proceeds will also benefit grants to Berkshire high schools for art field trips and free admission to the Berkshire Museum for Berkshire art students.

A preview of the 10×10 RAP is available on the BAA website, berkshireartassociation.org, and on Facebook at “Berkshire Art.”
