BAA’s Biennial Juried Show, OTHERING
The BAA (Berkshire Art Association) seeks original contemporary (new) art that expresses or explores the theme of OTHERING for a juried exhibition at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, Pittsfield, MA, November 4 – 26, 2016. An opening reception will be held on Friday, November 4th, and a panel discussion will be held on a date TBD.
OTHERING is defined in this context as perceiving or portraying something as fundamentally different. The BAA seeks perspectives reflecting experiences of exclusion, marginalization and separation, dealing in themes of (but not limited to) race, health, religion, class, gender, sexuality, age, (dis)ability and neurodivergence.
The mission of the BAA is to connect artists and the community in order to inspire creativity and increase access to the visual arts. According to BAA president Danielle Steinmann, “We chose OTHERING as this year’s theme because we believe it is important to give voice to artists who feel marginalized, and to raise awareness of the many ways our community views people as different.”
The call is open to artists working in the Northeast. An artist’s statement, outlining how the artist’s experience and work pertain to the theme of OTHERING is required with submission. All visual media will be considered for submission. A non-refundable registration fee ($25) covers three pieces, submitted as jpegs. Up to three images of each piece may be submitted. Submissions are due September 15.
To submit your work(s), please register on www.othering.artcall.org.
Click the green +Register in the upper right hand corner of the page. The page will prompt you to create an account and pay the fee. You can then submit three pieces and add the corresponding image to each piece (2-step process for each submission).
